Steam creates Proton to play Windows games on Gnu/Linux

There are currently 27,000 games of which 5,000 can be found in Gnu / Linux and a few hundred Windows games can be played with Wine.

Although games have grown especially 3-A for Gnu / Linux there are 22,000 titles not found in the Gnu / Linux library. The reason some don’t migrate to Gnu / linux is because they can’t find their game

Steam creates Proton a solution oriented to be able to play those Windows games that are not in Gnu / Linux

What is proton

Proton, the Wine and lDXVK-based compatibility layer that allows GNU / Linux and Mac users to run Windows games using the Steam Play feature.

Although at the start the list only has about 30 games so far, you can force Steam to install and play any game through Proton by checking the «Enable Steam Play for all titles» checkbox.
