WPS for Gnu/Linux

WPS Office (formerly known as Kingsoft Office, KSO or KSOffice), is an office suite for Microsoft Windows, Linux, Android OS and iOS. Created by software developer Kingsoft Office in Zhuhai, China. Includes the following components: Writer, Presentation and Spreadsheet.

The basic version is free, but a full-featured Pro version is also available. The current version is WPSOffice 2017.

Since 2005, the user interface design is similar to Microsoft Office products, and supports files generated by Microsoft products.

Established in 1989, KINGSOFT Office is a leading global developer of office software solutions, developing productivity applications for the consumer and enterprise markets. With more than 1 billion registered users worldwide, its core product WPS Office («Microsoft’s Best Office Alternative…» – CNET) is one of the world’s most popular office suites between iOS and Android compatible platforms, and Windows and Linux computers.

WPS began in 1988 as a word processor for DOS. WPS maintained a huge user base throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s, but when Microsoft Office 95 and Windows 95 were introduced into the Chinese market, the influence and sales of WPS were drastically reduced.

For GNU/Linux users, in addition to the WPS Office Storm and WPS 2005 versions, successive versions of Kingsoft Office for Linux have been released since 2013.

Since 2014, all products called Kingsoft Office have been renamed to WPS Office.

With WPS Office 2014, it had official support with some Microsoft Office formats (paid versions can save .docx, .xlsx and .pptx formats), but with WPS 2013 and 2016 it supports all Microsoft Office formats.

WPS Office 2016 is available as freemium software, since it has no cost to install, only contains the basic functions and supports all Microsoft Office formats. Announcements will be shown for some functions such as printing or mail merge.
